The Beaches

Back to Olympic Peninsula

On to Sol Duc River

From the Hoh Rain Forest you take highway 101 southwest to appreciate the several beaches of the coastal portion of Olympic National Park. We visited two of the seven or so beaches. The first we visited was the first encounted, Ruby Beach, named for the tiny red garnet crystals one can reportedly find there, we didn't. It is characterized by sea stacks, "spires of stone", you can see just offshore. Then we journeyed to a beach descriptively named Beach 4. It was a wonderful afternoon!

After the beach visits, we headed quickly back to Forks, where we were expecting a great dinner at the Smokehouse. It was a fun experieence, but the food wasn't up to expectations.

We relaxed in the sitting area outside our rooms at Manitou Lodge. Next morning headed for the Sol Duc River, it's salmon and falls.

Ira's trying to say good bye to the dogs again.
