Just
as we got started on the trails I discovered how scary a first growth
forest could be. |
|
For
the protection of this fragile ecosystem as well as for the convenience
of hikers, the trails were quite professionally constructed. We appreciated
the accommodation. |
|
It
was literally impossible to capture the magnificence of the individual
members of this society because they were so very tall and were obscures
by the forest's density. |
|
There
were many discoveries unique at least to us. Patty is toward the bottom
of this trail taking a picture of what she called a "magic tree".
The best I could make out, it was shaped by growing around another tree
that has since decayed. |
|
This
is a close up of that "magic tree". |
|
This,
what I'd call a banana slug was of great interest to Patty. |
|
We
took lots of photos and never tired of it. |

Carol
yne is studying a 'nurse' log. A fallen tree that hosts the growth of
the next generation of trees. |
|
Maybe
you can get a better view of that nurse log here. |
|
Thanks
Ira, nice photo! |
|
Ira
taking it all in. |
